About

Biography

I have an MA in English from the University of Auckland, and I have lectured and tutored in Creative Writing Papers for Massey University. I am a published author of four books – “The Story of a New Zealand Writer: Jane Mander”, “Shrewd Sanctity: The Story of Kathleen Hall” “Nitescope” and “Sailing to Success”. I have also had magazine articles published and for a year wrote a column for a newspaper until the newspaper folded. I don’t think it was my writing that caused its demise!  Friendships with other writers are important and  when Bronwyn, Valda and I met we all got on so well that we started having writing weekends at my home which were times of great fun, and huge output. We also wrote a play together which has only ever been performed once and that was to our book group. It is definitely not for general public consumption. Bronwyn died and her final novel was finished but waiting editing. So Valda and I took on the job. Editing Bronwyn’s book was a work of love there were tears and laughter but finally “Adam’s Ale” became a reality and was published.

Fresh Words Daily

Many years ago, when Iwas sitting exams my daughter Louise sent me a card with a Michael Leunig image on it, as a suggestion of a job opportunity for after graduation.

The image shows an old-fashioned horse-drawn delivery cart with “Fresh Words Daily” emblazoned on the side.

A nice blog thanks Rae
Not an obsessive chore for you (I hope) – but comments and news when they arise.
A good model for us all.
